| Bigg Trub, as Ray Martin is known as a native rapper from the Ojibway nation hailing from the Pacific northwest by way of San Jose California. Bigg Trub has been writing and producing music for 20 years. Trub released a solo EP called "Steppin' Outta Prism" that is getting national and international play and downloads from the US, Germany and Japan. His song "Reservations" was also featured on the the NAMMY nominated "Winter Solstice" album from the ECHOES organization and he is currently the program director for the Native Hoop internet radio station. Bigg Trub was actively involved with serious street gangs for 13 years of his young life. He like so many youth that have fallen into this life, was a young runaway from a broken and negative home life. His story is a look into that life and gives an under- standing of how our youth are drawn into gang life for a number of reasons. Bigg Trub touches on all these issues, including the drugs, violence and the many of the major issues associated with gang life that go untouched and explained by many people before. These various reasons include abuse, lack of a family unit, or other family members involvement in gangs. Also a much overlooked reason, the addiction to the chaotic lifestyle. The addiction to the adrenaline rush that comes with this style of living is just as powerful as any drug addiction, and has never really been touched on or talked about and Bigg Trub does. |
